Slovenian prize-winning choir to appear at 2027 World Choral Festival in Hong Kong

The invitation follows a new collaboration between the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing Association and the World Youth and Children Choral Artists’ Association (WYCCAA), the Hong Kong-based organisation founded by Prof Leon Shiu Wai Tong. The partnership is intended to support international musical exchange and create new opportunities for leading choirs to perform for audiences and participants in Asia.

Saint Nicholas Choir Litija won the 36th European Grand Prix final on Saturday 18 April 2026 at Union Hall in Maribor. Conducted by Helena Fojkar Zupančič, the choir took the top prize in a final featuring five ensembles, each of them winners of major international choral competitions in the EGP network.

EGP describes the competition as an annual event between the winners of six European choral competitions of high artistic quality. Despite its name, it is open to choirs from any country, with past winners coming from Europe, Asia, North America and South America.

According to WYCCAA, Prof Tong met with international EGP adjudicators in Maribor to discuss future collaboration between the two organisations. As part of the partnership, the EGP winner is invited to Hong Kong to take part in the 2027 World Choral Festival, sharing the stage with choral groups from around the world.

The initiative builds on EGP’s first collaboration with WYCCAA, which included a concert tour by Zero8, winner of the 2024 European Grand Prix final, at the World Choir Festival in Hong Kong. EGP said the agreement underlined a shared commitment to fostering international musical exchange and promoting choral artistry worldwide.

The partnership creates a new bridge between two major centres of choral activity, linking Europe’s competition circuit with one of Asia’s significant international choral festival platforms.
