Ara Hura concert marks Karen Grylls’ final season as Music Director of Voices New Zealand

Presented by Voices New Zealand in association with the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts, the programme centres on Robert Wiremu’s Re-imagined Mozart: Erebus, an adaptation of Mozart’s Requiem that received critical acclaim at its premiere two years ago.

The concert also features works by Bach, Hildegard of Bingen, Leonie Holmes and Takerei Komene, alongside waiata by Ngāpō and Pimia Wehi. A massed item will bring together Voices New Zealand with alumni singers from the New Zealand Youth Choir.

Founded by Grylls and first appearing at the festival in 1998, Voices New Zealand is joined for the performance by taonga pūoro artist Horomona Horo, leading instrumentalists and a chamber ensemble from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. The programme reflects Grylls’ long-standing collaborative approach and her role in shaping contemporary choral repertoire in Aotearoa New Zealand.
