Susannah Self

Susannah Self studied composition, singing and conducting at The Royal College of Music (ARCM singing), Cambridge (MPhil composition) and Birmingham Conservatoire (PhD composition) winning Royal Society of Arts and STEAM scholarships.

During her PhD research period Birmingham Opera Company commissioned Freedom Bridge, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group played SLAP and she worked with Birmingham Royal Ballet.

As a mezzo soprano Susannah has sung roles under distinguished conductors such as Ivor Bolton and Mark Wigglesworth. She sang Ma Moss in The Tender Land for Lyon Opera and made regular solo appearances with Opéra du Rhin, De Vlaamse Opera, Salzburg Landestheater, Luxembourg, Lisbon, Seville, and Santiago opera houses.

Susannah teaches composition at Guildhall Young Artists in London and also directs Eaton Choral Society, Ely Collegium, and North Sea Voices and Orchestra.
