CHORALSPACE The Sound of Water
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Knabenkantorei Basel, choirs and individual singers from around the world are invited to take part in a unique international choral festival in the Great Hall of the Berliner Philharmonie.

At the heart of the festival is the song cycle The Drop That Contained the Sea by the multi-award-winning composer Christopher Tin. This extraordinary work explores water as a universal element—both life-giving and destructive, shaping cultures, landscapes, and human experience.

Each movement reflects a different form and journey of water: from melting snow to mountain streams, rivers, and the vast ocean. Sung in multiple languages and inspired by diverse vocal traditions, the cycle creates a powerful global musical narrative.
